Getting Away and Getting Back!

Sunset over Charlotte Amalie

hi everyone! i thought it was time for an update!

as i was injured, mig and i decided that this winter we would take a real, beach vacation for once! as climbers, this rarely happens (i’m sure you know what i mean). our destination choice was made easy for us because we have friends who recently moved to st. thomas, in the U.S. virgin islands (featured above). having a place to stay was definitely a drawing point, but let’s be honest, we also knew that only a ferry ride away was a little island with big, white, granite boulders on white sandy beaches : Virgin Gorda. we didn’t have a guide-book and we weren’t really in shape but it was sooo much fun! here are a couple of photos to give you a taste of this sweet bouldering destination in paradise.

you’ll notice that, unfortunately, my new, fabulous (fall/winter) beta clothes were of little use in the caribbean heat ;)

so that was the “getting away” segment of this post. the “getting back” part refers to the fact that i am now back to the gym and training again! i feel like my treatment and exercises are totally paying off (shout-out to marcel for working so hard with me on this recovery!) and i feel ready to step it up a notch. i’m not sure how long it will take to get back in shape but i’m *hoping* to be ready to compete in march. in any case, it feels great to be climbing again and i now actually believe i might crush again too ;) . thanks to everyone at beta for your support and encouragement!

finally, though i haven’t been *in* the comp scene so far, i have been *at* the comp scene and i just wanted to give some props to dustin for his fine performances to date. i know you’re going to crush at coyote dude!
