have a safe and happy holiday season
The holiday season is one of my favourite times of year. Sure it’s not particularly warm outdoors—the only thing plummeting faster than the mercury is the chance of chalking up and hitting some local limestone—but I find that despite my occasional fits of cynical misanthropy (heh, I smell a New Year’s Resolution), I find that all the stock-taking going on seriously contributes to a sincere sense of fellowship and goodwill.
Speaking of stock-taking, Beta Clothing Designs would like to thank everyone who helped make this the best ever sales year in our history! In true “beyond-everything-tried-already” fashion (yeah, i did that on purpose) we managed to have our greatest success while the rest of the economy was scrambling to make ends meet! Directly from its launch on November 14th the reception to the 2009 fall/winter has been nothing short of overwhelming. Post One Of A Kind Christmas Show & Sale we were left nearly thread-bare, with an inbox overflowing with both clothing requests and a tonne of praise for our clothes!
Your generous response has gone a long way towards convincing us we weren’t crazy (well not for that reason), or overly ambitious; if anything we played it a little safe and can produce even more awesome, more ambitious performance fashion for Spring/Summer 2010 because we know you’re ready for it!
2009 was also noteworthy for the fact that Beta expanded its operations from pretty much a one-man show to a tight knit team to share the workload and spread the word. I wake up every day with a big, cat-that-ate-the-mouse grin, thankful that I get to spend time with an amazing, colourful cast of cohorts who share a vision and passionately believe in what they’re doing.
I think I echo the sentiments of everyone at Beta when I say that, despite the occasionally late nights and tight deadlines, I feel almost embarrassed by the fact that there hasn’t been a nanosecond I’ve spent on this project where it ever felt like work. It’s been an exhausting, relentlessly joyful experience. I got to work with and meet some amazing people and look forward to more of the same in the coming year.
Really, 2009 could never have been as successful for us if it wasn’t for all of you. Whether you bought one of our shirts, signed up to our Facebook fan page, talked Beta up to your mates, or just stopped us in the gym/street/show to tell us how rad you thought our clothes were, we’re overwhelmed with speechless gratitude at your response and promise to reward your goodwill with bigger and better in 2010!
So on behalf of Dave, Jamie, our awesome climbing team, and all the rest of the Beta elves, I’d like to wish you and yours a happy holiday season along with a renewed sense of purpose and vigor for 2010. Forge ahead, reach beyond, and at the end of your journey you’ll arrive to find a truer self waiting there.

see you all in 2010!
